12.Jul.2010 Rocking your balls off…

ATTENTION METAL HEADS!

The murderers of time will be opening for a band that hates fairy tales.

Opening for Rumplestiltskin Grinder on August 19th at Station 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The lead guitarist for Chronocide is my friend and frequent collaborator Tony Mangnall. If you’re in the mood for guitar shredding and skull-splitting metal, look no further than this group. Their music is so potent, their name was carved into a rock by a Moody Demon.

09.Jul.2010 Yes, I DO love German animators (thar bee links ahead)…

Received some cool news the other day. A short documentary I did some production assistant work on will be playing in the MNTV Showcase on Twin Cities Public Television this December! (And by production assistant work I mean I carried a tripod and moved a chair once.)

Directed by Greg Carlson, edited by Mike Scholtz and shot by Matt McGregor, Lines of Communication is about the brilliant animator Angela Steffen, and the process of making her award winning short film Lebensader.

If you ever get the opportunity to see it, Lebensader is not to be missed. Winner of Best in Animation at the 2010 Fargo Film Festival, the film depicts a young girl who loses herself in the dual worlds of a fallen leaf (an allegory for Angela’s father’s bout with cancer).

A short clip of the film can be seen at www.lebensader-film.com. I’m looking foward to seeing what work Angela comes up with in the future, and hopefully she’ll visit our fair city again!

07.Jul.2010 Blog for Wednesday, a date in July that I don’t want to type right now, so I’ll just use an image…

Today I’d like to highlight a certain musician who was gracious enough to lend me the use of his song “Tiny Leaves on Tiny Trees” for my July movie, hópur. A big thank you to Mr. Olive. I hope we work together again soon!

Finding Sleep Maps was sort of serendipity in a way. It started a number of months ago when I was searching YouTube for videos from David the Gnome, an old Nick Jr. show I used to watch at my grandparent’s house when I was a kid. Olive had created a remix version of the title track, and uploaded it with a surrealistic video cut from the shows opening sequence. I think it’s rather fetching. If you haven’t watched it, I’d suggest turning off the lights, taking a controlled substance, and sitting back.

Check out more music by Sleep Maps by visiting www.myspace.com/sleepmapsmusic.

Peace and ravioli.

Back in April I made a movie with some friends. It’s an activity I’m known to participate in, usually once a month. The movie was called First Mow, and it included a gag about a musician named Hank Reardon who had a project he called “A Song A Month”. It had a website and everything. Now it exists, for reals this time.
